Alcohol Service

Alcohol Counselling Service in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

Provided by Lisa Seymour BA (Hons) Dip Counselling MBACP

I am a qualified Integrative Counsellor with specialist training in counselling people who are experiencing difficulties related to alcohol. I provide a service to anyone over the age of 18 who is affected by their own or someone else's problematic drinking.

Problematic drinking shows itself in a number of different ways and may not always be about the amount of alcohol a person consumes but how their drinking behaviours impact on their own life and the lives of those around them.

Difficulties with alcohol can be viewed on a scale ranging from occasionally problematic to psychologically and physically dependent.  Problematic drinking can:

  • lead to problems with family and other personal relationships
  • affect physical, emotional and mental health
  • drain financial resources
  • lead to keeping secrets from loved ones and friends
  • making excuses for drinking behaviour
  • lead to feelings of isolation and loneliness
  • make others concerned and confused
  • feel too difficult to manage
  • be a symptom and way of coping with deeper sources of emotional difficulty and distress.

Alcohol  Counselling is a specific way of working that aims to help people make positive and lasting changes in their drinking behaviour while working with underlying emotional issues.

"Counselling has helped me learn to deal with difficult situations, taught me techniques to deal with drinking and helped me to put things into perspective by having someone to talk to."
