Some more questions answered
| How does counselling work? |
| |
Counselling works by providing a secure and confidential setting where difficulties can be expressed and worked through. A counsellor is trained to interact at a level that can bring understanding, insight and awareness in a way that leads to the recognition of new perspectives and the creation of choices. Counselling is not about giving advice or making decisions for you, it is about exploring your experiences and the way you relate to yourself and to others.
A counsellor will remain alongside you and listen carefully to what you say so that you can recognise learnt patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving that may no longer be helpful to you. These patterns can then be replaced with more creative and life enhancing ways of being. |
